FTC in two days!

We have an awesome gang ready for the Fall Team Challenge were we aim to beat our 2014 top 3% placing.
I have a question to ask you guys........ should we drop team mates from the FTC if they haven't rowed any metres by the 30th September?
Over the past few team challenges we have had between 7 - 12 members who have signed up for challenges, but for whatever reason didn't get a chance to take part or upload metres. This ends up bringing the team average metres down. So, should we get tactical and drop members if they don't upload?
Please note this DOES NOT drop team mates from ETT permanently - ONLY for the FTC 2015.

Hey guys. Let's get erging!
See you on the 15th September.

  1. You probably should drop them, unless they tell you before that date that they can only row during the second half of the challenge.
I'm not going to be able to erg in the last week of the challenge: getting my excuses in early for not beating last year's meters! Ken

    1. Hi Ken - We won't drop you. Thanks for letting me know!

  2. Ergateers who go for a challange should challange. If they can´t and want to pick up later they should tell the team leader about it. I agree with Ken.

  3. I like the new word 'ergateers' that's cool! But anyway I think it would be ok to drop those who haven't contributed any metres after consulting them. I think everyone enters these challenges with good intentions but then unfortunately for some reason life gets in the way and then they are unable to participate. Therefore I think this is acceptable. Cheers Pongi :)

    1. Thanks. Always good to have team mates contribute to decisions too.

  4. I'm ok either way on dropping people or letting them stay. But then again, I'm not the most competitive person out there.

We'll see how this challenge goes for me. I have started putting in more and more meters since the beginning of August, but anything over 15-min at a time is still causing me lower back discomfort and I don't want to re-injure it. But on a positive note, I have been slowly getting back into faster and faster times. I've done a few 1k's under 1:43/500m pace with no issue. Hopefully I can get back to that pace in my 2k's sooner than later. I am gunning for a 1:47/500m pace for this months CTC as well.

Good luck to all for this years FTC!
If I can hit 100k total for this challenge without any sessions over 15min, I will consider this challenge a success. Hopefully in time I will be able to row longer pieces again.

    1. Keep to your sensible recovery plan Joe. It sounds like it is working!
Good luck with your 1:47 pace ; )

  5. Perhaps using a 2 pronged approach might be better since FTC is Open challenge perhaps - i) Drop people who are not affiliated with the Empty the Tanks on the 30th, giving a little grace time to fellow Empty the tankers. ii) Drop all who have not logged metres on 7th October.
    Good luck to everyone.

  6. I can 2 sides so will leave it to the majority to decide. Also loving 'ergateers' though!

Have been a bit slack on the rower again but signed myself up as part of Operation MakeTShirtsFitMeAgain... Will make sure metres uploaded before 30th.
