March CTC and Challenge Series

A new month with new erging challenges to get stuck into.

The March Cross Team Challenge has been set by The Erg Team and has caused quite a bit of controversy on the C2 forum over the past week because it is a restricted stroke rate pyramid session.

Row 5 mins, 30 secs rest, row 4 mins, 30s rest, row 3 mins, 30 secs rest, row 2 mins, 30 secs rest, row 1 min, 30 secs rest and back up again to 5 mins.
All reps with an average stroke rate of 20 strokes per minute.

Round 7 of the Challenge Series is the Olympic race distance of 2,000 metres.

There is also the March Madness Challenge.
Row 5,000 metres or more for 25 days during the month of March. You will automatically be entered into this individual competition when you upload your metres.

  1. This CTC, with its controversial stroke rate restriction of 20 is a bear, one that will produce a bucket of sweat beneath your ergo. By the last 3 intervals, my HR was close to maxing out at the end of each one. I think I was a bit too concerned about going over the 20 spm and could have pushed it a bit further, though, as the way it was explained in the C2 UK CTC Forum, all you have to do is average 20 spm. So if you go over 20 on a few of them you are likely still ok.
A great workout, even if not one I'd choose to do on my own. :)

  2. I agree, it's hard to keep at 20 spm and concentrate on pushing for the metres too. I'm going to give it another go later in the month.
